چکیده

The validity of the serial compartment analysis of dye dilution curves was tested by injecting dye into the right auricle, pulmonary artery, a pulmonary vein and the aorta consecutively while sampling blood from the carotid artery. It was found that the serial compartment analogy is valid and that the lungs tire the largest volume in the series. In curves obtained by injecting into the pulmonary artery and sampling from the left auricle it was shown that under the conditions of the experiments, the lungs act like a single volume from which dye is washed out in exponential fashion.

Indicator-dilution curves in acyanotic congenital heart disease.

Dye dilution and cardiac catheterization technics were used to study 36 patients with a central left-to-right shunt due to patent ductus arteriosus, atrial septal defect or ventricular septal defect. The configuration of dilution curves following injection of dye into an antecubital vein was similar in all instances. Principal abnormalities of the curve were a prolongation of its disappearance ...

Value of Continuous Photoelectric Recording of Dye Curves in the Estimation of Cardiac Output

In order to test photoelectric recording of dye curves, simultaneous determinations of cardiac output were made in 48 patients with heart disease with the Fick and dye-dilution technics. The dye curves were recorded with a Colson densitometer following either intrathoracic or antecubital injection of dye. Both Evans blue and indoeyanine green dyes were employed. Satisfactory agreement was noted...

The dye dilution method for describing the central circulation. An analysis of factors shaping the time-concentration curves.

T HE method for measuring cardiac output based on the "dye dilution" principle of Stewart and Hamilton" 2 involves the injection of a known amount of colored substance into a vein and collection of serial samples of blood from an artery for determination of the concentration of dye. Other substances have been used for injection, such as salt solution and radioactive cells.3' 4 The validity of t...

Studies of coronary blood flow by multiple dye dilution curves.

The indicator-dilution technique has recently been applied to the study of the coronary circulation. One of the methods which have been proposed is the estimation of coronary blood flow from dilution curves sampled from the right ventricle after the injection of radio-iodinated human serum albumin into the left ventricle or into a catheter "wedged" in a branch of the pulmonary artery (1). Anoth...

Comparison of central and peripheral injection sites in the estimation of cardiac output by dye dilution curves.

• In the measurement of cardiac output by indicator dilution methods, the indicator may be introduced either centrally or peripherally. It is clear that use of a peripheral vein, particularly in large animals such as man, may result in two major sources of error, a) Indicator may be trapped between the injection site and the central circulation resulting in a small primary curve and an overesti...
